A Men's Guide to Head to Toe Body Grooming

Hey man, whether you’re a fan of the lived-in look or are more of a Dapper Dan, there’s no shame in caring about your appearance. Unless you like the hairy caveman style, chances are you’ve dipped your toe into the body grooming pool once or twice already. Whether you’re familiar with a bit of body trimming or not, mastering head to toe grooming can be a challenge. Well, don’t worry, we’ve got your back, your brows & your unruly nose hairs as we talk you through becoming hair-savvy.

The dos & don’ts

The key to good grooming is consistency. A clean shave or tidy trim not only looks good but can be more youthful & will likely help you feel more confident when you hit the beach or gym. A head-to-toe manscaping session isn’t an all or nothing situation; you don’t have to become fur-free or meticulously groomed. But there’s no shame in a little regular maintenance. Before we get into the specifics, here are a few essential tips that will help you master the art of at-home grooming before you’ve even picked up the best men’s body hair trimmer:

Don’t

  • Take a razor to your chest - A bald bosom often comes with razor burn, ingrown hairs & unsightly outbreaks. We prefer sculpting our rigs with a rechargeable body trimmer instead.

  • Get too creative with your facial hair - Resist the urge to turn your beard into topiary. Remember, well-kempt facial hair is sexy & timeless.

  • Forget to moisturise - If you’ve stripped any hair, it’s important to moisturise to prevent irritation & dry skin.

  • Try waxing at home - Waxing should be a last resort as it’s the most painful way to remove unwanted hair & can cause breakouts. If you do want to wax, we recommend seeing a trusted professional.

Do

  • Invest in a decent all-in-one trimmer - A good rechargeable trimmer can not only be used for keeping your facial hair in check but will also work for sculpting chest, nose, ear & other body fuzz.

  • Repeat regularly - Once you’ve got your body hair in shape, groom it regularly for easy maintenance that will take minutes instead of hours.

  • Find a good barber - Cutting your own hair is a slippery slope to a seriously bad hair day. Unless you’re opting for a buzz cut, find a barber you can trust & learn how to ask for the style you want.

  • Maintain your tools of the trade - Use only the best men’s body hair trimmer & avoid irritation & impurities by giving it a regular clean. Wash & sterilise blades & apply a dab of oil to keep your trimmer in good working order.

Exfoliating & prepping your skin

Before you get to trimming or shaving, don’t skip exfoliation — it’s the secret weapon for smoother results. Using a scrub or exfoliating gloves helps unclog pores, eliminate dead cells & lifts hair for a closer, cleaner shave. Make it part of your pre-grooming ritual, & trust us, your skin will thank you.

Cleansing & exfoliating can strip away the natural oils your skin needs to stay healthy. Keep things in check by slapping on a good moisturiser before & after shaving. It’ll keep your skin feeling smooth & supple wherever the day takes you.

Up your brow game

We’re not suggesting you shape your brows like an Instagram influencer, but they are one of the most defining features of your face, so a little taming & tidying won’t go amiss. Plucking lone rangers, removing a monobrow & trimming back bushiness is key to a youthful, well-groomed look that’s still, ahem, rugged and masculine! Here are a few steps to natural brow maintenance:

  1. Grab yourself a comb & a pair of trimming scissors (often included in ConairMan Clipper kits). Comb your eyebrow hair upwards, as vertically as possible. Carefully trim any hairs that extend beyond the top line of your eyebrows.

  2. If you have especially bushy brows, you can use a pair of clippers or trimmers to gently mow through some of the bulk. Clippers & a #3 comb (10mm) should do the trick, or a #2 if still too bushy.

With trimmers, always start with the largest comb guide. The PRO METAL SERIES MULTI GROOMER is ideal here, offering precision & control to keep your brows looking sharp & tidy.

  3. Now attack those strays with tweezers to pluck any isolated hairs outside of the brows including any hairs growing in between, though be careful not to eat into the eyebrows themselves.

  4. Wash your face to get rid of the trimmings & smooth your brows down with your thumb or a towel.

Tackle your nose & ear hair

Getting older brings with it a growing cluster of nose & ear hair. Of course, some nose hair is essential, but there’s no harm in removing a few stragglers, & one easy way to do it is with a precision trimmer.

Before trimming your nose hair, blow your nose & ensure you have adequate light & a mirror at hand. Gently insert your precision trimmer into the nostril opening & use a circular motion to cut the first 5mm of hairs. Make sure you turn your trimmer on first to avoid any painful snagging.

To shape up your ear hair, use tweezers to pluck any long hairs growing from the outer ear area first, then use your precision trimmer in the same way as above.

Bring on the beard

Beard maintenance is a bit more of a hairy minefield than other body parts. Some guys are genetically gifted with a face full of fuzz while others barely manage a smatter of chin stubble. The bushy beard trend has seen its day, & now more & more blokes are opting for closely cropped facial hair, but it’s really up to you. If you want to manscape your facial mane then here are a few beard grooming tips to help you keep it neat:

  • Buy a beard trimmer with numerous comb guides. Start with a higher comb guide & work your way down until you find the length right for you.

  • Use a beard comb or brush to wrangle stubborn hairs into place. You can even invest in beard shampoos &styling products for a truly tamed mane.

  • Have facial hair scissors to hand for trimming moustache hair & any errant long hairs. Concentrate on the area just below the nose & along the top lip line.

  • Don’t forget your neckline! Use your trimmer without a guide to shape up around two fingers above your Adam’s apple.

Keep your chest & back hair in check

Much like your brows, you don’t want your chest & back hair to look groomed, but you don’t want a wild carpet of fuzz either. Women don’t love back hair, but going for a bald back is not easy on your own. The All-Rounder foil shaver & body groomer can be used to closely trim the hair on both your back & chest, but you’ll need some help if you’re sporting more of a jungle in the rear. If you’re really hairy, a safer option is to go for a professional wax.

If you’re a swimmer or keen cyclist, removing all your chest hair makes sense but, if not, a decent tidy rather than total removal will do the job. Use the comb guides that come with your trimmer to find a hair length that suits you & just give it a monthly tidy-up.

Below the belt

Getting close to the hairs down there can be intimidating, but a neat & tidy nether region will leave you feeling & looking fresh. A close trim with a reliable men’s body groomer can help keep your tackle clean, reduce sweat & boost your confidence.

  • Stay away from the razor & add an all-in-one body groomer to your grooming kit instead. Always use a comb guide when trimming the hair down below & pull the skin taut to avoid any nicks.

  • Go slowly & work your way from your groin to your upper legs, avoiding the more...delicate bits. We recommend a good hair removal cream for any highly sensitive areas.

  • If you want a clean shave, always lube up with shaving gel first, & we can’t stress enough the importance of using a decent moisturiser after!

Everywhere else

When grooming your hair, it’s important to pick the right comb guide length to suit your style. If you prefer a hairy chest or desire smooth legs, who are we to judge! There are many manscaping styles that include areas beyond what we’ve covered above, but generally, the techniques remain the same. Keep it clean, trim with care, maintain your tools & manscape on the regular for a fuss-free hair grooming routine done right.

Creating a routine: consistency is key

The secret to effortless grooming? A solid routine. Set aside a few minutes each week to tackle your grooming checklist — trim your beard, tidy your brows & give your body hair a quick once-over. Regular maintenance means less time battling unruly hair & more time looking sharp. Investing in quality men’s body groomers will make quick touch-ups a breeze
